A Big Welcome to the New Graduate Students Cohort

By Emilio Gallicchio - Aug. 26, 2020

A big welcome to Joe Wu and Solmaz Azimi to our research group!

Joe and Solmaz join Sheenam, our only remaining resident graduate student after the happy graduation and goodbye of Dr. Rajat Pal last semester.

The research of the graduate students in the lab is supported by a generous grant from the National Science Foundation.

Joe Wu joins us from the Chemistry doctoral program at the CUNY Graduate Center. He will conduct research in close collaboration with our sister lab of Tom Kurtzman at Lehman College to develop models to study the effects of hydration on macromolecular binding.

Solmaz Azimi joins us from the Biochemistry doctoral program at the CUNY Graduate Center. Her research will primarily focus on the application of our analytical theory of alchemical molecular binding to classify macromolecular complexes and improve alchemical simulation protocols for binding free energy estimation.

Joe and Solmaz started (remote) computational research and training this Summer mentored by Sheenam who is continuing her research on advanced conformational sampling protocols to improve the reliability of alchemical simulations of binding.

Wishing all a productive journey through graduate school and graduation!
